ZnO Nanowire-Based Piezoelectric Nanogenerator Device Performance Tests

Over the past two decades, quick development of wireless sensor networks has required nodes being self-powered. Pushed by this goal, in work, we demonstrated a ZnO nanowire-array-based piezoelectric nanogenerator (NG) prototype, which can convert mechanical energy into electricity. High-quality single crystalline nanowires, having an aspect ratio about 15, grown on gold-coated silicon substrate, were obtained using low-cost and low-temperature hydrothermal method. The NG-device fabrication process been presented detail, NG’s performance tested both compression vibration modes. Peak power 1.71 µW was observed across optimal load resistance 5 MΩ for nanowires-based NG, with effective area 0.7 cm2, excited mode, at 9 Hz, corresponding to ~38.47 mW/cm3 volume-normalized output. measured voltage between top bottom electrodes 5.6 V. In 500 same device showed potential 1.4 V peak-to-peak value instantaneous 0.04 μW, output density ~0.9 mW/cm3.
